There are numerous international travel apps but very few work if you are from Kenya and don’t have plans to cross the boarders soon. So what are some of the apps that you can use from inside our boarders and still derive maximum satisfaction and functionality?
Here is a list of a few apps that I have found particularly helpful over the weeks in planning my travels and where to go for road trips.
Though this is not in any usefulness order, this app tops my list any day at any time. This is one of the most useful planning apps that you can ever have on their smart phones. Jovago is a booking platform that allows you to get the most affordable rates in the area around you. This app uses GPS, Global Positioning System, to find your location and suggest hotels near you. Once you select a hotel, you get to browse through pictures of the rooms, policies of the hotel, and a list of amenities the place has. If that’s not enough, there is a google maps link to directly navigate to the location. To top it off, you can directly book the hotel if you have signed in with the app. Your accommodation needs are sorted here.
This app has the potential to be the best travel app that exists in the Play store based in Kenya. It has options of accommodation, Where to go, Shopping malls, and some other useful sub features under these menus. The only place that has data in the entire app is a list of places you can go to for various activities under the Events section in the attractions menu. I would love to partner with the developer to help them get data on their app, get back to us.
Kenya travel guide
Tripwolf gives you a guide to Nairobi with the most beautiful pictures you will ever see. This has been the simplest app I have had to use over the period. The has excited an urge to explore the country even further. It boasts a host of recreational places to go, where to eat and reviews from other viewers on what they liked or didn’t like. It has Wikipedia links to give more information on the various sites you look at.
KQ mobile , Kenya Airways.
With the ability to book a flight, check-in, plan your trip get flight information and the ability to see the schedule of all flights almost in real time, the KQ mobile app is a flight above most Airline travel related apps in Kenya. I did not get the chance to test all these functionalities but as soon as I do, I will update you on the efficiency of the app.
TripAdvisor Hotels flights
It was through the trip advisor’s things to do suggestions that I got to know about the African Heritage House in Mlolongo. A place so near yet so hidden to most of us. This app has many functionalities and it’s up to you to explore it and see where all the possibilities lead you. The one thing I love about the app is the ability to write reviews of the places you have goon to therefore helping other people prepare well for their trips. In my exploration and use, I noticed that it now has a link to UBER for rough costs on places you choose to go to.
Mutua Matheka Wallpaper Mondays
This is not a travel app but a customization app with some beautiful pictures taken in Kenya for use as wallpapers for your android phone. You have over 230 pictures to choose from and they will not be disappointed. The app is based on photography form Mutua Matheka, one of Kenya’s best known Architectural and Landscape photographer, and some selection of pictures from other photographers and designers.
So, what travel apps are you running on your phone and what would you advice me to use for my travels?
